Billy Harris hosts another fabulous California Spirit filled with inspirational speakers and a live auction, all supporting the mission of the American Cancer Society.
Chef Sarintip “Jazz” Singsanong is the beloved chef and owner of Jitlada in L.A.’s Thai Town, renowned for bringing Southern Thai cuisine to national attention. Jazz is celebrated for her hospitality, her deep knowledge of Thai ingredients, and her dedication to sharing the bold flavors of her heritage.
Born and raised in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Southern Thailand, Jazz immigrated to the U.S. in 1979. She and her brother, Suthiporn “Tui” Sungkamee, took over Jitlada in 2006, transforming it into a destination for authentic, spicy Southern Thai cuisine and building a devoted following. Since Tui’s passing in 2017, Jazz has continued to run the restaurant with her niece, Sugar. Both Jazz and Jitlada have received numerous accolades, including multiple James Beard Award nominations and a Michelin Bib Gourmand. She’s also become a familiar face on shows like The Chef Show (2019), Guy’s Grocery Games (2021), The Migrant Kitchen (2023), and Chopped (2025), where her expertise and passion continue to inspire food lovers across the country.
Beyond the kitchen, Jazz is deeply committed to philanthropy, including ongoing support for children’s education, orphan care, and women’s health. For the last four years, she has supported the American Cancer Society and California Spirit, quickly becoming an event favorite.
This year’s mission speaker, Stephanie Sajjadieh, embodies what Cal Spirit is all about: resilience, hope, and the power of community-driven impact.
Stephanie is a two-time survivor of triple-negative breast cancer. She has seen firsthand what advances in research can mean, but she has also felt the heartbreak of losing her twin sister to the disease. Today, she walks beside her daughter, who carries the BRCA1 gene, as she takes proactive steps to safeguard her own future.
Stephanie’s journey is a reminder that cancer is not just one person’s battle: it affects families across generations. It’s also proof that science, generosity, and advocacy can rewrite the future.
At Cal Spirit, every dollar raised fuels this momentum: advancing research, expanding access, and giving families like Stephanie’s more tomorrows together.
